DECEMBER

District Roundtable: Troop 747 was selected to be the service patrol at the December District Roundtable.

NOVEMBER

Wet Beaver Creek Campout: The main goal of this campout was to find some mistletoe to harvest and bring back to Phoenix. The boys not only found mistletoe, but they found out that it's a bit colder in the Camp Verde area in November!

Order of the Arrow Conclave: Some of the boys from Troop 747 spent a weekend in Vegas at the annual OA Conclave.

Archery: While some of our boys were in Las Vegas for the Conclave, other Scouts were helping out with an archery class for some Cub Scouts that was held at the Ben Avery Shooting Range.

Veterans Day Flag Subscriptions: Each year, Troop 747 provides a flag subscription service to neighbors who support the Troop. On Veterans Day, the boys posted flags at over a dozen homes, and then retrieved the flags before sundown that evening. If you are interested in participating in our flag subscription program, just send us an email.

Scout O' Rama: Once again, Troop 747 participated in the annual Scout O' Rama event at Tempe Kiwanis Park. They earned 4 out of 5 awards at the event. Nice job, boys!

OCTOBER

Court of Honor: Congratulations to boys who earned merit badges and ranks at our latest Court of Honor. The ribbons from our Fall Camporee were also presented.

Fall Camporee: The District Camporee was held at the Adobe Mountain Railroad Park this year.

SEPTEMBER

Tigeree: Once again, Troop 747 helped the youngest Scouts learn how to fold flags and say the Pledge of Allegiance at the annual Tigeree.

AUGUST

Flagstaff Campout (Election Weekend): This was a big weekend for the boys of Troop 747. Some of the boys headed up a day early and took on the challenge of Humphrey's Peak (the highest point in AZ). The rest arrived on Friday and did a less challenging hike on Saturday to Bismarck Lake (more like a puddle this year). The Troop held annual elections at Saturday's campfire. Congratulations to our new youth leaders! The final event of the weekend was a hike in the Lava River Cave (1.5 miles round trip in a dark cave with an average temperature of 32 degrees).

JULY

Car Wash: The Troop worked hard at the car wash fundraiser this month.

Fourth of July: On every flag holiday, Troop 747 post flags in the yards of several folks in the neighborhood. The boys also retrieve the flags in the evening before sunset.

JUNE

Camp Geronimo 2009: This was Troop 747's second year at Camp Geronimo. The boys spent a full week there working on service projects, Order of the Arrow events, merit badges, hikes, and other activities.  Here's some video of the boys doing 747's "Jungle Cheer" at camp.

MAY

Camp Geronimo Ordeal: Our newest Order of the Arrow candidates participated in the Ordeal at Camp Geronimo and our Arrowmen served as elangomats.

Phoenix Patrol: The Phoenix patrol helped out at Pack 824's end-of-year meeting.

Camp Geronimo Service Project Weekend: In order to free up some time during our annual summer camp session, we spent a weekend up at Camp Geronimo working on our service project.

APRIL

Spring Camporee: Thunderbird District's annual Spring Camporee. This year it was held at the Ben Avery Shooting Range and featured archery, shooting, and fishing events.

MARCH

Pack 824 Crossover: Troop 747 welcomed five new Scouts at Pack 824's crossover ceremony.

White Tanks Campout and Backpack: At the end of Spring Break, Troop 747 went to White Tanks Regional Park. A select few also did a backpacking trip into the wilderness Saturday and hiked back out Sunday. Oh, and some of the younger Scouts got to watch the snake feeding at the visitor center (caution - graphic photos).

Picacho Peak Hike: The troop headed out for a more challenging hike in March. The younger Scouts tackled an easier trail while the more experienced hikers headed up the Hunter trail and then continued to the summit. As you can see, there's a reason that they recommend wearing work gloves for a portion of the trail.

FEBRUARY

Many of our boys attended the Thunderbird District's Merit Badge Round Up weekend in February while the rest of the Troop worked on rank advancements. We also had a great turnout for BSA's annual Scouting for Food event. As a District, Thunderbird collected over 6658 pounds of food. Way to go Scouts!

Court of Honor: Our latest CoH ceremony and Friends of Scouting presentation.

JANUARY

Flag Retirement Ceremony: This was the first year that Troop 747 conducted their own flag retirement ceremony. They held a formal program on Friday evening. Then, they continued into the night retiring flags and keeping an honor guard posted. Finally, at about 3AM, the boys finished retiring the flags that had been donated.

Rio Salado Hike: While it's still cool here in the valley, the Troop decided to take a hike along the new Rio Salado waterfront in Central Phoenix.
